Is this course right for you?

This course is for adults in Victoria who have been served with a family violence safety notice, an application for a family violence intervention order, or an interim order, and who want to understand the process, follow the conditions properly and prepare for the first court date. It also briefly covers personal safety intervention orders. It suits people who are considering agreeing to an order (with or without admissions) or negotiating practical conditions, and who want to get organised before speaking to a duty lawyer or their own lawyer.

This course is general information, not legal advice, and it is not a substitute for a lawyer. Get legal advice before you go to court if you want to contest the application; if you have also been charged with a criminal offence or are on bail; if you are not an Australian citizen; if you hold a firearms licence or a job that needs a licence, registration or clearance; if children are involved or there are parenting or child protection orders; if you have been excluded from your home and have property issues; if you have been charged with breaching an order; if you want to vary, revoke or appeal an order; or if you are under 18. Victoria Legal Aid, community legal centres and court duty lawyers can provide free help, and our firm can also assist.
